Are Corded Blinds Illegal in Canada
Under Health Canada’s Corded Window Coverings Regulation, blinds with long accessible cords are illiegal to sell in Canada as of May 1,2022. The regulations ban, or severely restrict the length of cords to prevent strangulation to children and pets.
Key details:
1) Reachable cords cannot exceed 22cm in length. 2) No reachable cord can provide a loop of more than 44cm in perimeter. 3)Regulations apply to ALL window coverings sold for consumer use in Canada.

Can I motorize my window coverings?
Absolutely! All shades and blinds offer various types of automation which can be controlled by wand, remote, app and voice controls.
How do I clean my window coverings?
- Shutters and blinds can be dusted regularly, and wiped down with a damp cloth. Mild soap can be used for more stubborn stains
- Shades can be cleaned by light vacuuming, using a delicate upholstery attachment. Spot clean with a white damp cloth and very mild soap.
What is the difference between vinyl and wood shutters?
- Wood shutters are made with real hardwood such as poplar. They can be painted or stained to match your decor. They are very strong and long lasting but can crack or chip in high humidity.
- Vinyl shutters are made from PVC material to mimic the look of wood. They are available in standard colors. They are moisture resistant and will not crack or peel.
- Both products will last a lifetime with proper care and maintenance.
What type of window covering works best on arched or specialty shaped windows?
- Specialty shaped windows can be tricky to cover. The only products currently available in Canada are Cellular shades, Zebra blinds or shutters. Cellular shades and zebra blinds can be made to fit standard arches,while shutters offer more options.
What are the most economical window coverings?
- Faux Wood Blinds and basic roller shades are the most budget friendly options.
